Why Awarding the 2020 Ballon d’Or Now

The 2020 Ballon d’Or was not awarded due to the COVID-19 challenges during those period. The 2020 Ballon d’Or has come in consideration by the France football Federation to honour a player since they weren't able to do so during the pandemic. After the 2020 Ballon d’Or was not awarded and the 2021, 2022, 2023 was awarded to Lionel Messi (2021 Ballon d’Or winner), Karim Benzema (2022 Ballon d’Or winner), Lionel Messi (2023 Ballon d’Or winner). During the 2020 season Romeo Lukaku scored 31 league 11 assists in 45 matches making him the second top goal scorer in the league. Cristiano Ronaldo with an amazing performance scored 41 Goals and 6 assists in 39 matches. While Robert lewandowski in his astonishing performance scored  47 goals and 10 assists 40 matches making him to be the top goal scorer in that season.

The France Ballon d’Or football association are in consideration of giving the 2020 Ballon d’Or Award to Robert lewandowski, after it was not awarded in 2020.

As of May 14, 2024, many football fans and analysts still believe that Robert Lewandowski was the most deserving player of the 2020 Ballon d’Or award. During the 2019/2020 season, Lewandowski played a key role in Bayern Munich’s historic campaign, where the German club won the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal, and UEFA Champions League in dominant fashion.
