Victor Boniface Set for Knee Surgery, Ruled Out for Rest of Season

Victor Boniface to Undergo Knee Surgery, Not Expected to Feature Again This Season

Victor Boniface is set to undergo knee surgery following further medical assessments, with the club now not expecting him to feature again this season.

Earlier this month, Werder Bremen had played down reports suggesting surgery had already been decided, stating that a final call would only be made after consultations with a specialist. After follow-up examinations including assessment by a specialist in Innsbruck the decision has now been taken that surgery is the best course of action.

Sporting director Peter Niemeyer confirmed the situation, explaining that the recovery timeline makes a return this season unlikely.
“Given the rehabilitation process, we no longer expect Victor to feature for Werder again this season,” Niemeyer said.

 Decision Taken After Specialist Review

The choice to proceed with surgery reflects a long-term medical decision, aimed at ensuring Boniface makes a full recovery rather than risking complications through a rushed return. While the exact rehabilitation timeline has not been publicly specified, current projections rule out any further appearances before the campaign ends.

Impact on the Remainder of the Season

Boniface’s absence leaves Werder Bremen without one of their attacking options for the rest of the season. How the club adapts whether through internal solutions or tactical changes will be a key storyline in the coming weeks. This assessment, however, remains analytical rather than an official club stance.

Focus Shifts to Recovery

For Boniface, attention now turns fully to rehabilitation and preparation for next season, with the club prioritizing his long-term fitness over short-term returns. Further updates are expected as he progresses through recovery.
